rosary. Obituaries Myron Close Myron James (Bud) Close, 82, 1217 Fillmore Eau Claire, Wisconsin, died Monday, April 22 peacefully, at home. Bud was born November 24, 1913, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Myron and Annie (Hopkins) Close. He graduated from Chippewa High and received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1939.

On October 14, 1939, Bud married Winifred (Willie) Damon in Madison, Wisconsin, and moved to Eau Claire where he joined the Engineering Department of U.S. Rubber Company (later Uniroyal) where he became Plant Engineer. After working for 27 years at the Claire plant, Bud and Winnie moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma, where Bud worked as Plant Engineer in a new Uniroyal plant which he helped design. The Closes moved back to Eau Claire In 1983 after Bud's retirement. From 1941 through 1 1945, Bud served in the U.S.

Army 2nd Signal Battalion, including 21 months in the European Theater, where he received the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. He later retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lt. Colonel. Throughout his lifetime, Bud was very active in the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eau Claire and the First Methodist Church of Ardmore.

He was an organizer, officer, and coach of Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball. He served as Cub Scout Master for over ten years. Bud was a member of the Wisconsin Professional Engineers, the Golden-K Kiwanis, and a lifetime member of Post 3054. He was a very active member of the Republican Party of Oklahoma and Wisconsin, participating at the county, state and national levels. Bud was known to many as a friend who helped where needed.

He always responded when called upon to help his fellow man. He will be missed by all who loved him. Bud survived by his wife Winnie; -daughters Jane (Neil) Christoffersen, San Antonio, Virginia Close, Portland, Donna (Ron), Traaseth, Eleva; sons, M. John (Jo) Close, Eau Claire, Phil (Jean) Close, Eau Claire, and Art (Kaydee) Close, Sparta, thirteen grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. The arson charge, punishable upon conviction by up to 40 years in prison, was filed Monday in Eau Claire County Circuit Court against Stephen L. Robelia, 48, of N4791 Highway 25, Menomonie. Robelia is to return to court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing. Late last year, Eau Claire County Circuit Judge Gregory Peterson concluded a civil suit by ruling that Robelia caused the April 4, 1994, fire that destroyed his home on Route 6, south of Eau Claire.

Peterson ordered Robelia to pay $50,000 in punitive damages to the Trempealeau County Mutual Insurance Co. of Whitehall, in addition to $46,113 to reimburse the company for the money it paid to cover the loss of Robelia's home. In making his ruling, Peterson said, "I am satisfied that the (insurance company) has proved that CVTC's named By CVTC News Bureau Tom Vanderloop, a mechanical design instructor at Chippewa Valley Technical College, has been named teacher of the year by the Wisconsin Vocational Association. The honor is made annually by the vocational association to one of its more than 2,000 members. In the past 10 years Vanderloop has twice guided the CVTC chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers to national honors.

The CVTC student organization was chosen first among more than 220 chapters nationwide in "overall excellence" in 1984-85 and 1990- 91. James A. Cain of 3171 Craig Road recently was fined $1,023 and ordered by Eau Claire County Circuit Judge Benjamin Proctor to reveal to police the sources of all illegal drugs he has bought.

Proctor also gave Cain the choice of making a $500 donation to the Abuse Resistance Education program or serving an additional six months in jail. Last month, Cain pleaded guilty to a felony charge of delivery of marijuana, while a second count of the same charge was dismissed. According to court records, Cain supplied quarter-ounce bags of marijuana to a man who sold the drugs to a member of the West Central Drug Task Force on Nov. 1 and Nov. 8, 1994.

Both drug sales occurred in the 1000 block of Menomonie Street. Hmong youth seminar May 9 A seminar, "Perspectives on Effective Strategies for Working with Hmong Youth," will be held Thursday, May 9, at the University of Wisconsin-Bau Claire. The event is sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire College of Arts and Sciences, in cooperation with the Division of Continuing Education and the UW-Extension. It is intended to help service providers who work with Hmong youth. The seminar fee is $59, which covers instruction, materials and refreshments.

John chose to join his wife on their 56th Wedding Anniversary. John was born to John and Rachel (Brehm) Styer and was the first C-section baby born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire on August 11, 1912.

John married Martha Doelle April 24, 1940 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Menomonie. They farmed on the Rusk Prairie until 1969 raising 9 children. He worked for the Dunn County Highway Dept, until retiring in 1977. John enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, showing off his prize deer racks from 1973 and 1983, and tinkering with new inventions.

John and Martha's most prestigious honor came in 1956 when they were voted the Happiest Couple in Dunn County. They were pictured with their children in the St. Paul Pioneer Press along with an appearance on WOO TV in the Twin Cities. John was often known as the "John Wayne" of Dunn County because of the strong resemblance. His humor, one-liner quips and laugh will always be remembered and he played a mean game of Dirty Clubs.

He is survived by 6 sons, Ed (Phyllis) and Dale (Debby), both of Colfax, Don and Ken (Mary Ellen), both of Waukesha, Louie (Colleen) of Menomonie, and Jack (Mary) of Ridgeland; 2 daughters, Sylvia (Jeff) Schulte of Colfax, and Patricia Hanson of Zimmerman, 28 grandchildren; He 3 is great preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha in 1992, a son Sam in 1974, an infant son in 1942, 1 brother, Leonard, and a sister, Jane Knopps.
