Do you need chains to get to Tenaya Lodge? ›

Parking at Tenaya Lodge is free for hotel guests. During the winter months, snow chains may be required on State Highway 41 or Highway 49. For highway information and snow chain requirements, please call 800-427-7623. When chain control is in effect, all vehicles (including four-wheel drive) must carry tire chains.

It is quite popular for picnicking, swimming, and canoeing. Tenaya Lake was named after Chief Tenaya, who was the last chief of the Yosemite Indians.

Additional Amenities

A daily Amenity Fee of $35 per night will be added to all reservations. In addition to our regular hotel amenities, the Amenity Fee includes: Use of Pedal Bikes in the summer months, weather permitting. Snow Shoes available in the winter months, weather permitting.

Don't expect to have the place to yourself, though. Scenery Factor: Tenaya Lake may be the most beautiful of all Yosemite's lakes. It's a mile (1.6 km) long and bordered on three sides by granite peaks and domes. The only drawback is that Tioga Road passes along the lake's northern edge, but this is easily overlooked.

Highway 140

It provides the lowest altitude approach, which means it's often the best year-round highway to travel on. This is a very scenic route to Yosemite and probably gives you the most impressive way to enter the park.

Winter officially begins on December 21, but you wouldn't know it by the snowflakes piling up throughout the Yosemite region.

These large individuals of the Mountain Coyote are the present day "wolves" of the Yosemite region. No true wolf is known to have occurred anywhere in middle California since about 1870.

Tenaya Lake Swimming Itinerary

Water temperature was hard to gage but high 40s to low 50s (roughly 10-12 degrees Celsius) seems fair, based on averages and the fact that nights were in the low 40s.

Tenaya Lake was created by the Tenaya Glacier, which flowed out of the vast Tuolumne Ice Sheet and down to Yosemite Valley. This same glacier created Half Dome. The Tenaya Glacier was lightly loaded with debris, and did not leave a large amount of moraine material near Tenaya Lake.

NOTE: Yosemite Valley Lodge does not have air-conditioners in the hotel rooms. Fans are provided in each room for your comfort. Heaters are provided in each room.

Does Yosemite Lodge have laundry? ›

Landscaping of indigenous trees, shrubs and wildflowers further reflect the natural beauty of the Yosemite Valley. Hotel amenities include a restaurant, bar, tour desk, gift shop, laundry facilities, swimming pool and cycle hire.

Showers are available at the Curry Village pool showerhouse for a fee. Showers are not available elsewhere in the park. Dump stations are available at Upper Pines Campground (all year), near Wawona Campground (summer only), and near Tuolumne Meadows Campground (summer only).

About Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite

The lodge, set adjacent to Yosemite National Park's South Gate at an elevation of 5,288 feet, offers 302 rooms, suites and mountain cottage accommodations.

Yosemite National Park – Places to See – Tenaya Lake elevation of 8,150 feet is located off HWY 120 (Tioga Pass) in Yosemite's high country. The lake at its natural level is approx. 114 feet deep with crystal clear and cool snow melt waters.

Kayaking is a popular way to enjoy the calm waters of Tenaya Lake. Every person must have a personal flotation device immediately available for each occupant of the raft/boat (and children under age 13 must be wearing one).

We strongly recommend that you have chains when visiting Yosemite from November through March (chain requirements may be in place on occasion as early as September or as late as May); conditions can change rapidly and chains can become required at any time.

California does not have any specific dates when vehicles are required to carry chains. When the road is posted with a sign requiring chains, all heavy-duty vehicles (over 6,500 pounds gross weight) must be equipped with chains mounted on the tires in order to proceed.

Yosemite Area Highways. Highway 41: This highway leads from Fresno through Coarsegold, Oakhurst, and Fish Camp to Yosemite's south entrance, then on into Yosemite Valley. It peaks at about 6,000 feet (1,800 meters) elevation at the Glacier Point Road turnoff, and tire chains are frequently required in the winter.

If you can make it up to Yosemite's high country, you simply must stop to see Tenaya Lake, located just off of Tioga Road (Highway 120 East). Do yourself a favor by parking the car and stretching your legs for a quick hike at Tenaya Lake. There are parking lots at both the east and west ends of Tenaya Lake.
