These inexpensive 10 foot Pelicans are sturdy enough for casual use but clunky to manuver. If you are over 6 feet tall, or more than 200 lbs, you would be better off getting a larger and more capable kayak.

Go with a sit on of at least 12' in length. You will need the longer deck room for your legs and gear. Craigslist or FB Marketplace can be a great way to save. Do note that high season is on so the good ones go quickly. Another alternative is a good quality inflatable which are very stable. They are not a fast on the water, but since you are heading downriver, it's not a factor. Here's a sweet deal on a durable inflatable that a few people in my kayak group picked up: http://www.aquaglidepaddle.com/pr...-with-pump

Can anyone comment whether any of these would be good for a first fishing kayak? 6'1" 200# for reference

The Teton Angler 100 is pretty decent and has the lawn chair style seat. That extra bit of elevation and the stability will be helpful.

Thanks. I was looking at Academy Sports as they have a kayak sales event with the Pelican Argo 100X for the same price.
I'm not sure which is better, but more options are great.

Amazing prices! I have a Mustang and I love it when I go out fishing! Light, nimble and tracks well. I remember the scamdemic prices hitting stratospheric levels (if you were lucky to find one for sale!)! Great company. Good stuff.

I don't know anything about these in particular, but if you're looking at sit-in kayaks, make sure your feet will fit comfortably. I have average size feet but in some kayaks I'm forced to turn my feet at an angle. Best if you can try sitting in it before buying.

\nThe Bandit sit on as almost all kayak fishermen go with the sit on design. I'm a long time kayaker and a sit on will give you much more ability to haul gear too. These 10' are handy for more calm water and will work fine for rivers, calmer lakes. My preferred length is the 13' sit on as you gain a much higher weight cap, better glide, tracking, and speed. But these entry level kayaks may be all one ever needs. Go for it!","hideTimestamp":false,"timestampFormatted":"05-11-2024 at 08:53 AM.","permalink":"/f/17486190-10-pelican-bandit-nxt-100-kayak-250-10-quest-canyon-100-kayak-200-more-free-store-pickup?p=170807433#post170807433","postId":170807433},"commentSectionCommentFooter":[],"commentIsHelpful":null,"commentGiveRepPopover":{"username":"norcal007","userAvatar":"/images/avatar/sd/redesign/Comment-Box.png","headline":"Say Thanks & Give Rep!","subtext":"","authorText":"norcal007 posted this comment. \n \n \n Quote\n from norcal007\n \n \n \n \n :\n \n Go with a sit on of at least 12' in length. You will need the longer deck room for your legs and gear. Craigslist or FB Marketplace can be a great way to save. Do note that high season is on so the good ones go quickly. Another alternative is a good quality inflatable which are very stable. \nthe Intex is low end, fragile, and a poor paddler. Daughter and her friends went camping, took along 2 of my inflatables (Advanced Elements) and one had the Intex. It will get you on the water, but they track poorly, wind easily blows them around due to their high sides, and really ends up with too much wag, right and left. These Itiwit kayaks from Decathalon and sold by various vendors have a good reputation and paddle pretty well and at $180. it's solid. www.walmart.com/ip/Decathlon-Itiwit-Inflatable-Recreational-Sit-on-Kayak-with-Pump-1-or-2-Person-Gre... [walmart.com] You will need a paddle, but they are cheap. If paddling solo, place the seat in the middle to balance it out.","hideTimestamp":false,"timestampFormatted":"05-12-2024 at 07:11 AM.","permalink":"/f/17486190-10-pelican-bandit-nxt-100-kayak-250-10-quest-canyon-100-kayak-200-more-free-store-pickup?p=170818572#post170818572","postId":170818572},"commentSectionCommentFooter":[],"commentIsHelpful":null,"commentGiveRepPopover":{"username":"norcal007","userAvatar":"/images/avatar/sd/redesign/Comment-Box.png","headline":"Say Thanks & Give Rep!","subtext":"","authorText":"norcal007 posted this comment.
